Tararua District Council needed a solution to a health and safety issue within their existing Water Treatment Plant (WTP). Two different chemicals were being stored in the same room, and the fumes from these substances were reacting, causing rapid corrosion to surrounding components and posing a risk to both the facility and staff.

Our brief was to design and deliver a safe, compliant, and efficient solution that would prevent chemical interaction and damage to infrastructure - without requiring major on-site construction.
We supplied a prefabricated Permastore 3x2 unit, designed to be split into two separate rooms by a concrete dividing wall. Each room was designated for a specific chemical, completely isolating the storage environments to eliminate cross-contamination risks.
To ensure durability and protection against potential spills, we applied chemical-resistant Dega flooring throughout the unit. This robust flooring system provides long-term resistance to corrosion and chemical degradation - an important factor in high-risk, high-usage water treatment environments.
The prefabricated approach provided a fast and cost-effective solution. By manufacturing off-site, we were able to minimise disruption to the operational plant and deliver a controlled, high-quality build that met all compliance and safety requirements.
This project demonstrates how prefabricated construction can offer a practical and efficient solution for essential infrastructure, especially in environments where durability, safety, and rapid deployment are critical.
